Mindless eating? We’ve got that nailed down like a triple crown in the horse racing world! We do nearly everything mindless these days! Drive thru lines… Coffee lines… Heck, we don’t even want to wait for a nail appointment!
This is why we struggle with obesity. When I can work with my clients on this one thing, they have results that make them do the snoopy dance around the block!
Mindful eating is a powerful tool for weight loss and overall health.
What is it?
It’s the practice of being fully present and aware of your food, how it tastes, smells, and feels in your body. When you eat mindfully, you’re more likely to make healthier food choices, eat until you’re satisfied, and avoid overeating. You are more likely to drive past the fast food joint and run home to create a healthy masterpiece!
Start by taking time to sit down and eat your meals without any distractions. Turn off the TV, put away your phone, and focus on your food. Take small bites, chew slowly, and savor the flavors. Pay attention to your hunger and fullness cues, and stop eating when you feel satisfied.
Another tip for mindful eating is to keep a food journal. Write down what you eat, when you eat, and how you feel before and after eating. This can help you identify patterns and triggers that may be contributing to overeating or unhealthy food choices.
Triggers control our lives!
Remember, mindful eating is not about depriving yourself of your favorite foods, it’s about being more aware of what you eat and how it makes you feel. With practice, you’ll develop a healthier relationship with food and achieve lasting weight loss success.
